The projects “Traces and Time” reflect and deal with the concepts of “traces” and “time” in a broader sense. They also contain partially autobiographical sections. Media used include video, performance, sound, installation and photography.
About the concept of “traces” in my work. Everything we do, everything we react to, everything we say, every step we take, every action leaves a trace. Some traces are exact imprints in which you can easily recognize the original object. Others are more like shadows that leave room for the imagination. The attitude to traces can also be very different. For example… Sometimes I want to leave a trace and sometimes the other way around – I want to go unnoticed.
Projects and works related to the concepts of “time” and “empty time” are based on the philosophical Far Eastern concepts of Zen and Ma.I have lived and worked in the Far East, which has significantly influenced my artistic visions.
To give a brief definition of the concept of “Ma” and the term “empty time”: The Japanese use MA to describe the intentional distance created by a short pause between actions or by the empty space between objects. A distance that is not emptiness or lost time, but represents a special connection. MA can be the silence and emptiness between the sounds that create music, the short pause that highlights an action, or the invisible volume for which a bowl is created. It is a spatiotemporal concept that is fundamentally different from the Western view of emptiness, which is focused on apparent efficiency.
In some works, the concepts of traces and time are intertwined. The concepts of traces and time are interpreted and reflected in the same moment.
